LONDON (Reuters) – UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said late on Thursday that the COVID-19 lockdown in parts of Northern England will be tightened, owing to an increasing rate of transmission in these areas. “So from midnight tonight, people from different households will not be allowed to meet each other indoors in these areas,” Hancock said on Twitter. The areas include Greater Manchester, parts of West Yorkshire and East Lancashire, he added. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed on Thursday a petition challenging the appointment of special assistants to the prime minister (SAPMs) holding dual nationality, observing that the premier has every right to appoint as many assistants as he wants to run the affairs of the government. The petition, filed by senior lawyer Mohammad Ikram Chaudhry, mainly argued that rule 4(6) of the Rules of 1973 was ultra vires of the Constitution. RAWALPINDI: After Islamabad granted permission to the British Airways, the company announced on Thursday that it would resume its UK-Pakistan flight operation next month. The airline said it would start direct flights three times a week to and from London’s Heathrow Airport and Islamabad airport. The first flight will land in Islamabad on Aug 14. Extra precautionary measures will be taken for the safety of its crew and passengers. ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government wants the opposition not to link legislation related to the action plan of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) with their proposal to amend the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO). The proposed amendments to the FATF-related United Nations (Security Council) Bill 2020, Anti Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2020 and NAO came under discussion at the second meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Legislative Business presided over by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. After the in-camera meeting, Mr Qureshi told the media that the opposition sought time to deliberate on the draft bills. He said the committee decided to meet again on Tuesday. Sources in the committee told Dawn that apparently the opposition wanted both bills passed simultaneously. ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday agreed to mull over the proposal to establish a constitutional court, but said the final decision should not be taken in haste. “It is a good proposal, but it needs to be thoroughly deliberated and discussed with the judiciary, bar councils, think tanks, Law Division and other stakeholders,” Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan told the Senate.
